Before you begin your Pilates routine you need to gather up all of the necessary equipment that you will be using. The most important thing you need to have is your Pilates mat. Can you imagine doing the workout on a hard floor? It would hurt your back and every other part of your body. The mat cushions your body leaving you to concentrate wholly on your exercise instead of the pain you would be feeling.

The Pilates circle and the Pilates spine supporter are not musts to have – but they can come in handy. The spine supporter is great for anyone who has problems with their back and their spine. It is shaped in a most unusual way that will support your spine while you are performing the exercises.

The Pilates circle has one purpose – to increase the resistance in your exercise. Depending on what exercise you are doing and how you use it you can help to focus on your abs, legs or arm muscles. Some people don’t get the right resistance and are unable to get the full workout. That is why they use the circle.

If you really want to get the most out of your workout than you can always spend the big bucks and get the specialized Pilates machine. For example you can get the Pilates reformer – which allows you to do over 100 exercises. On this machine you have the ability to sit, kneel, or stand while trying to focus on your torso stability and good posture alignment. The springs (which are adjustable) allow you to increase resistance every time you progress allowing you to focus also on building up your muscles.
