There are many different poses in Yoga that one can practice and each one has a different purpose in maintaining your body and your spirit. The most common of these is Adho Mukha Svanasana. This pose will help you to increase your flexibility (this is the main goal of every pose), awareness, and your power.

The main goal of this pose is to help you to stretch out your hamstrings and your spine – which will in turn help you to relax your heart. Some poses may be difficult to start off on – but Adho Mukha Svanasana is one of the easier ones to begin with.

You first need to relax all of your muscles and clear your mind. You need to concentrate on what you are about to do without over analyzing it. Let every movement you do flow through you as if you have been doing this your whole life. One thing that helps is to put on some relaxing mood music.

Give yourself room and stand up making sure that your legs are not too close together and that your arms are at least a shoulder width apart. Your middle finger needs to be parallel and pointing forward while your elbows are swaying back and forth. This helps to ensure that your inner elbow is facing forward.

Next you need to breathe in and bend your toes under (like a ballerina would do before she started to dance). Breathe out, straighten your legs, and push up with your arms.

At this point in your pose you are working to stretch out your spine by keeping your legs straight and your feet planted flat on the ground. Remember to keep your shoulders down and make sure that the weight in your hands and feet has been distributed equally. You should stay in this pose for a few breathes than relax. Repeat the pose a few times and remember to breathe in and out each time.
